One of the restorative pleasures of academic administrative responsibility, of positions like the one held by Eric Owen Moss as director of the Southern California Institute for Architecture (SCI-Arc), is the chance to bring in visiting experts whose work or conversation you enjoy, whether for a lecture or a term. Monica Ponce de Leon and Nader Tehrani, who work together as Office dA, and Andrew Zago of Zago Architecture, the three experimental architects whose site-specific, student-built installations at SCI-Arc are documented in this book, have all been visiting professors there. Through in-depth interviews on their careers and these pieces, Moss makes it clear that he appreciates both their work and their company.
